I might add that my first grader had an experience with overtly political teaching (it was totally false, outrageous and ridiculous)...this was the last straw for us and the final push we needed to get the heck out of the public school system.

Sadly, I had a first grader who had an experience with overtly political teaching. It was dispicable, but it inspires a sense of gratitude for me now, since I realize it was the last straw that drove us out of public education for good. Five kids in private school for 12 years is going to hurt, but I'll happily eat ramen noodles and peanut butter sandwiches in exchange for sharp, inquisitive, intelligent kids.

...the high school principal is well aware that the History of Jazz teacher (who announced on the first day of school that he knows nothing about jazz) hasn't taught one class since the beginning of the school year and does absolutley nothing about it. Four quarters of nothing but hanging out in the band room.
