The Fifty Word Challenge

You were warned that it would return....

The  Fifty Word Challenge.

There was once upon a time a girl who loved classic fairy tales. She has been enchanted, thrilled and even terrified by them. This girl also loved new fairy tales that were created by her friends; so in a land far, far away, and several clicks of a mouse, she decided to challenge her on-line friends to a fairy tale post.

The Challenge

Write a short fairy tale that begins:

Long ago when witches...
And ends .....it remains unknown.

The middle is up to you. However, the entire story must be no longer than fifty words. A magical blog-pixie will be counting  all words, and yes, the five word opening and two word closing, do count towards your total word count.

The three best Fifty Word Stories, has chosen by me, will be voted upon, on Wednesday, by my blog-friends. Yes, there will be a winner. The prize? The winner  will choose next Tuesday's Site of the Day.  Yes, you can choose yourself, even if you have already been Site of the Day. However, you could offer the Site of the Day "honour" to one  of your blog-friends. If there are less than three entries, I will pout, however, there will still be a winner chosen.

Sound fun? Of course it does.

Sharing Some Saturday Night Thoughts

Here for your eye-rolling enjoyment, is a short list of random things a pirate girl might ponder on a Saturday evening.
  • Is it possible for five friends to all agree to dress as pirates for a costume party and for all five to actually carry through with the Five Pirate Girls theme? Aye!
  • Is it possible that at least three of the five will wear pirate costumes that appear to be taken from a page of The Bedroom Fantasy Catalogue? The answer is again, Aye!
  • Will I actually accept a cocktail that has been ladled from a cauldron? Of course I will, or in pirate-talk, Arr!
  • Is it possible for a woman dressed as a pirate to have a conversation with a man dressed as Pee Wee Herman about short stories and the work of Mavis Gallant? Aye aye.
  • Is it possible to wonder what other outfits might work with a pair of thigh high patent boots? *pirate girl shrug*
  • Will I actually think that there should be a limit to how often the song Monster Mash is played? The answer is, dropping all pirate talk: hell yes!
  • Will I actually have a great time with me hearties and yet miss the fact that someone special was not here to shiver me timbers - and to offer wonderful post party tricks and treats? Pouty Arrrrr!

Yes, all these things were pondered by this pirate girl. The costume has been replaced by not-quite so-revealing Michele wear.  The pirate talk is no more. Now, could someone please tell me how I could  convince my friends to rid themselves of all pirate photo evidence?

The Daily Question From A Blogfriend

This question was e-mailed  to me.

Claire wants to know...

Did you, or are you going to a Halloween party this year? What did you/will you dress up as? If  you are not dressing up this  year, what did you dress up as the last time  you went to a Halloween party?

Another Question From A Blogfriend

This question was asked in  The  Answer and Ask  Comment Game.

Janet wants to know......

When you're picking through the Halloween candy, which ones do you eat first?

The Answer and Ask Comment Game

It is time to socialise and make small talk.......

How shall we do this?

Let me explain:

The person before you has asked you a question. Now being a pleasant guest you shall answer. See, small talk! Now, you will want to welcome the next guest by asking a question of them.

It really is as simple as answer and ask. Please remember you are a pleasant guest and this is only small talk, albeit of the amusing kind. Some possible questions mght be:

  • What book are you reading?
  • Where did you get that lovely ensemble?
  • Do you think Brad Pitt is over-rated?
  • Who was your favourite Bond, James Bond?

Please, keep it non-personal and ask fun questions. And  yes you can come back to mix and mingle, in fact I encourage it.

Question for first person:

What was your favourite Halloween costume, from when you were a child?

The Word Association Comment Game

Simply post the first word that comes to mind when you read the word in the comment above yours.  The next person will write the word that first comes to mind when they read your word. Sound easy? Oh, of course it does.

Allow me to start:

The Monthly Book Question

Currently on my nightstand: The Assassin’s Song by M.G. Vassanji.

Your turn: What book is currently on your nightstand?

A Brand New Swoon

It would seem to be an easy thing, really, the not falling in love at first sight. It is simple I tell myself, just stop being such an easy swoon. I can do this, can't I? Well, maybe so and maybe not. I will admit it, I am a woman who likes the object of my affection to knock my socks off.  I want to feel my heart skip a beat, and to wonder how I ever lived before the moment that my new love was discovered.

So, yes, I confess, it happened again early yesterday morning. Yes, it was a magical moment and I was instantly smitten. Ah the exhilaration. Oh, the anticipation. Please let me introduce you to my newest  swoon. Oh. My!

Now, really, can you blame me?

The All About You Test

Please read the instructions carefully! You are about to take another weekly All About You Test.

The Instructions:

Take your time for the test and try to answer as many questions as possible. You are going to be asked 5 questions. Please look at a clock and time how long it takes you. You should not need loner than 30 minutes. If you need longer, please consider learning more about yourself.

After you completed the 5 questions, you have finished the test and you may leave the comment section testing area. But please remember: these on-line "all about you" tests can never be as accurate as tests supervised by trained professionals.

We from All-things-Michele hope you have fun with the test.

Good Luck and best wishes!

  1. Do you always dress to impress when you enter your bedroom?
  2. Without peeking, what colour is the sky in your world?
  3. Do you tidy-up before your house-keeper arrives for her (or his) weekly shift?
  4. Without the instructions, how long would it take you to boil a three minute egg?
  5. When is the last time you wondered about the sanity of  a political speechwriter?
  6. Star Wars or Star Trek?
  7. I only drink champagne when I am happy or when I am sad, when is the last time you had champagne?

Caption Contest Number 125

Yes. Another caption contest. You know the rules, yes? You think of a caption for the picture in the extended  post and submit it in the comment section. We at All Things Michele will once again select the best ones (every single one) and award each one (every single one) with an imaginary trophy for their imaginary caption-contest-winner cabinet.

The Daily Question From A Blogfriend

DebR wants to know.......

You just found out you're having surprise guests for dinner and you can't afford to take them out. Quick! - what do you make for them to eat with what you have on hand?

Heidi wants to know.....

What ever made you do that, and are you going to tell us what it is?

The Fourteen Letter Comment Game

It's a Thursday thing.....

It is that magical time again. That time when all the letters of the alphabet get to be placed in a pretty row for one of my comment games. Yes, I will pause while you clap your hands in glee. Okay, stop clapping dammit you are holding up the game. Now,what is the current alphabet theme? Fourteen letter words. Yes, it is time to show off your big word collection.

So, in the spirit of alphabet games may I suggest that we create a list of fourteen letter words, put in alphabetical order of course.

Now begin with the letter A, the next person does B and so on.....

Yes, you can return to play again, after all, there are many fourteen letter words, correct?
