Ok, where'd the meet and greet go?!
Posted by: Tammy | April 23, 2005 at 10:00 PM
I have been taken with the film too. We've watched it twice. Do you realize Julie Delpy wrote the screenplay and songs in it. She has a CD of songs she's written and performed. Hadn't heard of it but it looks good, something similar to gifts from the sea.
My Saturday was spent with Diana Krall and Zap Mama, the rain, the cat, the husband, and poetry editing. That, and a bit of weight training and laundry. Your day sounds lovedy too.

It sounds like you had a lovely Saturday Michele and I'm very glad. My Saturday consisted of one thing- moving. My 2 sisters and I moved my mother from her home in Maryland to her new condo in Virginia. The move went smoothly, but was exhausting. So finally, I'm here with a glass of merlot and you. A very nice end to the day. Cheers:-)

I LOVE Before Sunrise, but I was unhappy with Before Sunset. They were too jaded.
I taught some make-up piano lessons this morning, went to look at puppies, and then slept all afternoon after getting upset with my husband.

I read Gilead recently and liked it very much.
Today I:
1. Worked
2. Went down to mama's to fetch my son
3. Worked some more
I've also popped in here a time or two.
Not the best Saturday I've ever had, but whaddaya gonna do?
Posted by: terrilynn | April 23, 2005 at 11:46 PM
1. Cleaned my frontroom. Sort of. A little bit.
2. Clipped a few roses from my rose bushes & brought them over to my mom, just because I'm such a wonderfull son.
3. Laundry. Ugh, I hate doing laundry.
Oh, and please do not ever brag about having a sharp knife in front of me. I will not be able to restrain from testing its sharpness by slicing open my thumb. It's a proven fact. I have multiple witnesses.

And, Michele, I am going to strike you from the shoe buyer's union! How could you pass a shoestore to buy a $70 knife? I don't cook enough all year to make a knife worth $70.
Posted by: kenju | April 24, 2005 at 01:19 AM
I loved Before Sunset. It was an outstanding film, endlessly watchable. Unlike many films of its ilk it isn't self-consciously clever, just heartfelt and engaging. If only more movies were like it.
And as you suggest Michele, Paris itself is possibly the most magnificent element of the film. So if you'll please excuse me, I just have to book my ticket...

1) Woke up with the alarm clock at 9am so that I wouldn't sleep all day.
2) Hit said snooze alarm untill 11am.
3) Insert random nothingness here.
My sister in law used to sell knives like that. She just couldn't understand why I wouldn't want to drop $500 on a set of kitchen knives. Nevermind that silly past due electric bill, they can wait!

Made risotto (shallots, porcini, saffron, asparagus, chestnut mushrooms, petits pois, parmesan)
Made salad (baby rainbow chard, lovage, sorrel, rocket, mint, romaine, carrot (grated), tomato, cucumber, fennel, gherkin, marinated olives, toasted pine nuts/cashews/sunflower seeds)
Ate the above with various family members, followed by clementine cake that I had made the day before, served with organic vanilla ice cream

My Saturday, after waking up near 11 o' clock, was spent:
1. At the office for an hour preparing some urgent quotes for Monday morning
2. A pedicure and shoe shopping (they do go together you know... :-p)
3. At a friend's birthday/house-warming party till 2am!
Posted by: kisane | April 24, 2005 at 02:52 AM
1. Collected my daughter from her friend's house where she had slept on Friday night.
2. Bought the same daughter a birthday present for her 8th birthday (today).
3. Finished the book I started earlier in the week.
I haven't seen Before Sunrise or Before Sunset but they are on my very long list of films to catch up with. The book is on my very long list of books to catch up with. When you have finished it, perhaps you might let us know what you thoughtof it and if you enjoyed it. I like hearing people's thoughts on books they've read, and it often leads me to read something I might not have done otherwise.

I entered a script to a BBC writing competition. Yay me, I finished something. Worship at the feet of my finishing skills. I wrote a CD_Rom of my band's promo for an agent and sent it off. Then I got stoned and watched celebrity wrestling. Both ends of the cultural spectrum. Yay me and my wide band of aesthetic appreciation. To finish, I watched a Jim "Police Squad" Abrahams movie called "Jane Austen's Mafia," starring Jay Mohr. It was goofy [top of my wish list for a comedy] and very funny in bits.

I too went shopping only I bypassed the knife shop and opted for two luciously soft silk cami's from the Express. Now i'm all dressed up with no where to go! -sigh-
I haven't seen the movie, but think I will try to in the very near future.

2. Ran errands after game.
3. Went to my youngest son's out of town ball game.
I've yet to see Before Sunset. I did fall in love with Under the Tuscan Sun, though. Or maybe that's because I love Italy and dream of going there someday. Maybe the scenery was what pulled me in, though I thought it was pretty accurate in terms of human behavior, and it was well-written.

1. Spent four hours at the office yesterday catching up on filing and paperwork, in preparation for my vacation, which begins exactly one week from right now (2 weeks in Scotland, woo-hoo!).
2. Went to lunch with a fellow blogger (and very dear friend).
3. Started reading Morality for Beautiful Girls by Alexander McCall Smith, and picked up some new books to read on the trip, including Jenny and the Jaws of Life by Jincy Willett and Coyote v. Acme by Ian Frazier.
Michele, since you have taken your share of good-natured ribbing on the $70 paring knife, let me say to you: brava. I'm a believer in good knives. Yes, the first time you pay for it, it makes your side hurt, but if you take care to keep it sharp and honed, it will last you for yearsandyearsandyears, and it will make cooking so much less of a chore. Believe me, I know how wacky this sounds. I never believed that a good sharp knife would make that much of a difference. Then I came into a set of good knives, and I realized how much energy I had been wasting with my dull, cheap, nasty, never-take-a-proper-edge supermarket knives. I applaud your superb judgment! :)

I'll second tanya's sentiments in regards to Before Sunrise vs Before Sunset. I love the scene in Before Sunrise in the listening booth...how honest, how *real* was that? I do wonder how I might have felt differently if I would have seen the films in reverse order...?

1. got up early to work in my flower beds in the front yard. Saw the neighbor dog deposit on my lawn, so I decided to just "flip" it with my garden trowel onto the street walkway, so maybe they will step in in next time. heehee
2. planted some marigold seeds
3. met with my small group communications class about our project

I went for a run, did a lot of reading, and fixed dinner. I am such a bore! (it was supposed to be sunny here, but it was actually rainy--that's my excuse!)

1. I flew from New Hampshire to Tampa
2. I ate at an Amish restaurant for dinner
3. I walked outside in barefeet and nearly stepped on a snake. Ah, Florida!
Posted by: bari | April 24, 2005 at 10:36 PM
1. I had my hair colored for the first time. (So far, no one has noticed until I mentioned it... except for Paul, but he knew that I was getting it done.)
2. I took several of my good knives to be professionally sharpened. (And I second Bakerina on the value of good knives. I've had two of my knives for 20+ years, and will probably have them for the rest of my life. If your new paring knife serves you well for 35 years, $70 won't seem terribly expensive, will it?)
3. I wandered through Pike Place Market, looking at the rainbows of glorious tulips (it's the height of tulip season up in the Skagit Valley), and wishing that I had my camera with me.
